Angélique A. Desvaux de Marigny

Angélique Anne Desvaux de Marigny is a barrister-at-law having been admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 2000 and to the Mauritian Bar in 2001. She graduated from King’s College London and subsequently from Université de Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) with an LLB (First Class Honours) and a “Maîtrise en Droit Privé (Droit des Affaires) respectively, Angélique completed her vocational training at the Inns of Courts School of Law, London.

Angélique initially practised as litigation counsel for the first six years of her career as a tenant of De Spéville-Sauzier-Desvaux Chambers before joining the CIEL group as Head of Legal Affairs where she, inter alia, was actively involved in the setting up and launch of the one of the pioneer Integrated Resort Scheme projects in Mauritius. In 2009, Angélique returned to private practice and has since been involved in both advisory work and litigation in various fields.

Angélique is fluent in both English and French and has appeared in numerous complex and high profile cases at all levels, including before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

She has a marked interest for family, employment, commercial, insurance and private international law matters. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Investec Bank (Mauritius) Ltd as independent non-executive director between 2005 and April 2019 and chaired the latter’s Corporate Governance Committee.  She is an independent non-executive director of Rogers & Company Limited.  She also sits as a non-executive director of Rogers Capital Ltd and chairs the latter’s Corporate Governance Committee. She is the Vice-Chairperson of the National Adoption Council of Mauritius.  She teaches the family law module of the Induction Course dispensed to prospective barristers by the Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies and has co-authored ‘Le Droit de l’Ile Maurice’, published in France in February 2022 by L.G.D.J, in the Collection : Bibliothèque de l’Association Henri Capitant.
